When writing my discovery draft I had no idea what community I was going to write about. I could not think of any at the time so I ended up writing about the FSU community as a whole. During our peeling the onion exercise, I began to rethink my initial idea as I listened to my classmates share theirs. When it was my turn to share, I came up with the idea to write about my dance community. I expressed to my classmates that I initially wrote about the FSU community and was planning to completely change my topic and write about my dance community. They reassured me that my new topic was a good choice. I then went home and began my draft. Writing my first draft was easy because dance is something that I am really passionate about and I felt as if I could write forever about it. In fact I think I wrote a little too much. My first draft exceeded the word count by about 200 words. When I met my professor I read him my essay and he told me that it was an A already and I had nothing to worry about. His only suggestion was for me to try to get it closer to the word count. Hearing him say this lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders. I got off to a rough start with this first project by not knowing what to write about but with the help of my classmates and professor I think I am doing much better.
