BBG Chapter 9 "Revising and Remixing Your Work"

BBG CHAPTER 9

Revising Based on Your Own Observations

Because first drafts are usually just getting everything out of your head and onto the page in an unorganized manner, it is helpful to try to revise your own work before going to someone else for help. Revising your own work can help you to see any major mistakes that you made. Learning to critique your own work is an important skill to learn that can help you throughout school and even in the workforce.

Revising Based on Peer Review

Once you have created your genre and reviewed it yourself you should ask other people for feedback. It is important to ask someone that you know will give you honest feedback. This can be very helpful because the person reviewing it might notice things that you didn't see. To get the most helpful feedback ask yourself what you want to know from your respondents. Examples of good things to ask the person reviewing your genre are “Can you point out places where I need to add more detail?” and “Can you let me know where exactly it starts to get confusing?”

Remixing Your Work into Different Genres

When remixing your work into a different genre you are giving it a new purpose. It may be helpful to change the audience or message of your original genre. However, the result should still relate to your original genre. Examples genres that you can remix your work into are PowerPoint, YouTube video and social media advertisements.
