Project 2 - Research Proposal
As I began searching for a topic of exploration, I noticed that many communities used direct and informative genres of communication. This prompted me too look into communities that used alternative methods that were less direct but contained more symbolism and a deeper message. After an appointment at the advising office, I became intrigued with the Studio Art program that is offered by Florida State as a possible community for my project. This peaked my interest due to the fact that I am a visual learner and have spent extensive time using artistic genres of communication. During my four years of high school, I took several classes in graphic design using a multitude of programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. These computer programs allowed you to bring your artistic talents to the virtual world and create works of art that could communicate a wide variety of messages. Not to mention, I have constructed a lot of diagrams and learning tools for my younger sibling to help them better understand concepts they learned in school. As my interest grew, I decided to research the question, “How does the Studio Art community at FSU employ effective genres of communication in conjunction with their artistic nature?” It is important to recognize that everyone learns and is influenced in different ways. This idea is the foundation behind the symbolism within an artistic piece that allows the viewer to take what they want away from the work. My goal is to uncover the methods through which this community at Florida State differs from those around them by taking an in-depth look at the genres they use and how they make them effective. However, I want to get a first person source that has experienced the way in which the Studio Art program functions at the university. Currently, I am deciding whether to interview a professor or a student who is working inside the program.
